About WnT Featured Underground Artists...

New York Urban music is unmatched by any other city. Besides NYC being the birthplace of Hip Hop, this city also has new artists born literally every day. Most major music labels and music studios are also located here. People rap, sing and produce new Hip Hop, R&B, reggae and other music here by tens if not hundreds of thousands and most have professionally recorded materials.

Mixtapes began as far back as the 60's in Europe. However, Hip Hop mixtapes originated in New York. Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa and Kool Herc began putting them out in the 70's. Now when you go to almost any show or just spend time near a major music store, the odds are, you will be offered to preview a mixtape.

Many of these artists do not have what it takes to become the next stars. Still, this is how a lot of heavy hitters became known. From 50 cent to Papoose, from Alicia Keys to Mary J. Blige and many others got started from nothing just with their talent.

In this section WORDSnTUNES does 2 things: we update you on what some of the Hip Hop legends and stars of the underground are doing now and also present to you some of the lesser known artists, who are sure to become the stars of tomorrow and keep the true Hip Hop alive.

You will get information on artists with their music, stories and photos. You can view them all on the right of this page.
